In 1965, eight members of the Kuwait National Assembly - Abdul Razzaq Al-Khalid, Sami Al-Muneis, Ali Al-Omar, Ahmed Al-Khatib, Rashid Al-Tawhid, Yaqoub Al-Humaidhi, Jassim Al-Qatami, and Sulaiman Al-Mutawa – resigned, citing restrictions on freedoms imposed through recently passed legislation. This collective resignation signaled significant political dissent within the assembly.
