Kyiv and Kharkiv, Ukraine, are under attack as of Saturday, with reports of casualties and damage, according too local officials. These attacks coincide with ongoing diplomatic efforts to find a resolution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Kyiv Attacks and Casualties
Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko reported on Telegram that two people were seriously injured in the Holosivskyj district, and a total of four people have been injured across the capital. He urged residents to remain in shelters. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the city’s military management, stated that a fire broke out in a district near Kyiv, impacting a medical institution, and that one person has been killed. These reports were current as of 01:54 local time.
Kharkiv Attacks and Rescue Efforts
In Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that people were trapped in a five-story building after a drone strike. A private house and nearby buildings in the Nemishlianskyj district were also hit,resulting in multiple injuries.
Diplomatic Talks in Abu Dhabi
These attacks are occurring while Russia, Ukraine, and the United states are engaged in informal talks in Abu Dhabi, united Arab Emirates, aimed at finding a solution to the war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj announced on Friday evening that discussions focused on a framework for ending the war, with plans for the parties to meet again on Saturday.
