Speaking on the Jim Rome Show, Juszczyk praised Purdy’s competitiveness and his role as a leader within the organization. He suggested that Purdy’s status as the final pick of the NFL draft continues to influence how the quarterback is perceived, despite his statistical achievements and accolades since entering the league.

Career Trajectory and Performance

The 2026 season marks Purdy’s fifth year in the NFL. He first became the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers midway through his rookie campaign in 2022. Within his first 18 months as a starter, Purdy led the franchise to an NFC Championship Game and a Super Bowl appearance.

Following that initial success, the team faced a challenging 2024 season, finishing with a 6–11 record. This decline was attributed largely to injuries across the roster.

In 2025, Purdy continued to demonstrate his value to the franchise despite significant physical setbacks. He missed half of the 2025 season due to turf toe, yet he managed to set franchise records while playing through injuries and managing a depleted roster. His efforts helped the 49ers reach the divisional round of the playoffs that year.

2026 Playoff Progress

The 49ers have continued their postseason push in 2026, recently advancing to the divisional round after a 23-19 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, who entered the game as the defending Super Bowl champions.
