Larson swept both stages, led 235 laps to break his own track record, and passed Chase Briscoe with seven laps remaining to earn his second win in the last three races and his record-tying fourth victory at Kansas Speedway.
Dominant Run at Kansas Speedway Secures Playoff Lead
The win at Kansas Speedway marked a stark turnaround for Larson’s No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports team after a 51-race winless drought that spanned more than a year. Larson started on the outside of the front row after practice and qualifying were washed out, utilizing metrics combining his second-place finish at Bristol with ownership points. He quickly moved to the front and stayed there through the afternoon, aside from routine pit cycles.
With 30 laps remaining, Briscoe tracked down Larson and briefly took the lead, but his car grew increasingly loose and began brushing the wall. That slip allowed Larson to reclaim the top spot—officially passing Briscoe with seven laps to go—and drive away to collect the maximum 76 points available under the playoff format.

Larson said, referencing his drought-ending win earlier in the season outside St. Louis. I didn’t feel like it was 51 races and then, yeah, just it seems like we were just building and ready to kind of capitalize if we got a moment like this, where our car and everything kind of came together.
Championship Outlook Heading to Las Vegas
Larson heads into the upcoming race at Las Vegas holding a 26-point advantage over Hamlin in the playoff standings. Las Vegas serves as a strong venue for the team, as Larson has won three times at the track in the Cup Series, trailing only Joey Logano among active drivers. Hendrick Motorsports has accumulated nine victories at the facility, the most of any organization.
Despite the significant points buffer and recent momentum, Cliff Daniels emphasized that the team maintains a measured approach with six races left on the schedule.
I feel like we’ve shown a decent amount of patience,
Daniels said. At the same time, we’ve been patient, just from the emotional level of not letting the struggle keep us down. Honestly, my opinion, I still don’t think as a company we’ve peaked yet. I don’t think as a team we’ve peaked yet. There’s still a lot of racing left and a lot of work to do.
