A coordinated operation led by Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team (SOT), along with other security partners and Richards bay SAPS, resulted in the arrest of four suspects believed responsible for a string of robberies across KwaZulu-Natal.
On Wednesday evening, January 21, authorities received reports of suspects targeting people at a Richards Bay fuel station. The suspects reportedly bumped into victims, distracted them, and stole their cellphones. Security footage showed the suspects arriving in a white hatchback and actively targeting customers.
Reviewing the footage, officers identified the suspects as a group already known for similar robberies in multiple areas of KZN. Operational teams mobilized and positioned themselves to intercept them.
Further facts confirmed the same group moved on to a fast-food restaurant in Richards Bay, where they stole additional cellphones from patrons before fleeing.
Later that evening, officers spotted a vehicle matching the description traveling on the N2. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the suspects fled south, exiting toward Umdloti. A pursuit followed, and officers stopped the vehicle.
Four suspects were arrested at the scene. They were wearing the same clothing seen in the earlier video footage. A search of the suspects and the vehicle recovered multiple cellphones, two of which were positively identified as stolen from the Richards Bay restaurant.
