LA County Deputy Faces Domestic Violence Charge after Lancaster Arrest
Updated May 25, 2025
Jim devoe, 30, a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy, was arrested Monday in Lancaster on suspicion of felony domestic violence, according to the sheriff’s department. He was released Tuesday on $50,000 bond. This arrest comes two years after Devoe faced charges of physically abusing his 5-year-old son.
Details surrounding the latest incident remain limited. A sheriff’s department spokesperson confirmed Devoe’s arrest at 4:10 p.m. Monday on suspicion of corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant. The department has initiated both criminal and internal administrative investigations into devoe, who served as a bailiff at the antelope Valley Courthouse in Lancaster. The department had placed him on leave in January 2023.
The sheriff’s department emphasized its commitment to accountability. “The Sheriff’s Department holds its employees to the highest standards of integrity and professionalism,” the department said in a statement. “We are committed to ensuring accountability for actions both on and off duty, as public trust is earned through openness, responsibility, and adherence to the law.”
Devoe’s attorney, Sharon Paris Babakhan, acknowledged the arrest but refrained from commenting on the specifics. “It is important for the public to recognise that Jim has endured important personal and professional losses consequently of the pending matter,” Babakhan said. “The past two years have been extremely difficult for him.”
In June 2023, Devoe pleaded not guilty to felony child abuse stemming from a May 2023 arrest. He was accused of hitting his 5-year-old son. A protective order was issued, mandating he avoid contact with the child.
Prosecutors said Devoe initially told the boy’s mother that the child’s injuries occurred during a bicycle accident. However, upon picking up her son, she observed serious bruising and swelling. The child and his brother later told investigators in a hospital interview that Devoe had punched the boy.
According to a statement from the L.A.County district attorney’s office, Devoe was “accused of slapping and punching his son in the face, causing visible injuries, and then lying to the boy’s mother about the cause of the injuries, including facial swelling and bruising, an eye hemorrhage” and red marks.
Babakhan indicated a resolution is anticipated in the 2023 case. “We anticipate closing the matter on our next court date, July 1, 2025,” she said. “While the terms have not yet been finalized,we expect both felony charges to be dismissed, with a plea to a single misdemeanor count.”
Prior to the 2023 arrest, Devoe was relieved of duty amid allegations of misconduct, including alleged possession of illegal steroids. Anthony Salerno, Devoe’s former attorney, denied the steroid claims, stating his client passed drug tests and was suspended due to a suspended driver’s license for speeding.
What’s next
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department continues its investigation into the domestic violence allegations against Deputy Devoe. The outcome of the internal administrative review and the pending court date in July will determine his future with the department and the resolution of the previous child abuse case.
