Team GB Cricket Eyes Los Angeles Olympics Return

The possibility of a Great Britain cricket team competing in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic games is under discussion.The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Scotland have begun talks to establish a Team GB side as cricket prepares to make its Olympic return.
Trudy Lindblade, chief executive of Cricket Scotland, told BBC Radio 4 that thay have a strong working relationship with the ECB and are in the process of establishing a Team GB cricket entity. Lindblade added that this is required by the British Olympic association (BOA) for a British team to compete at the Olympic Games.
The ECB has confirmed these discussions. Olympic cricket events at LA 2028 will feature six-team T20 tournaments for both men and women, the International Olympic Committee announced. Lindblade noted the six-team format presents an possibility through the Team GB concept.
Participating teams can field squads of up to 15 players, but the qualification process remains to be resolute. Lindblade said there is much to come in terms of how qualification takes place, not just for those six teams but how selection would occur within a GB team, should it qualify.
Cricket’s only prior Olympic appearance was at paris 1900. Great Britain won that match by 158 runs against France in a one-off final, after the Netherlands and Belgium withdrew.
The BOA said in August it hopes to enter a men’s football team into the 2028 Games, uniting the England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland Football Associations to field a first Team GB men’s Olympic side since London 2012.
