LA Animal Shelter Overwhelmed by Big Dogs, Needs Food Donations
LA Animal Shelters Facing Food crisis as Big Dogs Flood In
Los Angeles, CA – A beloved Los Angeles animal welfare association is sounding the alarm, pleading for the public’s help as its shelters face a critical food shortage. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) has been inundated with large-breed dogs in recent months, leaving its food supplies dwindling.
“We’ve had a big summer with a lot of really big dogs, and honestly they are just eating us out of house and home,” said Miriam Devonport, vice president of spcaLA. “The average weight of dogs in our shelters is nearly 50 pounds.”
This influx of Huskies, Shepherds, and other large breeds has put a strain on the organization’s resources. Unlike some national organizations, spcaLA operates independently and relies heavily on local support.
“We’re right here in Los Angeles, and we’ve been here for almost 150 years,” Devonport emphasized. ”We need your help.”
Typically, spcaLA needs 33 tons of food annually to feed its shelter animals. Now, they are urgently requesting donations of all types of dog food – dry and canned – as well as financial contributions to purchase more.
Donating is easy. Visit any of spcaLA’s pet adoption centers during business hours to drop off food. For added convenience, the organization has created wish lists on Amazon and Walmart, allowing donors to order and ship directly to spcaLA.
