Pets Left Behind: La Castellana Launches Rescue Effort amid Mt. Kanlaon Eruption Threat
La Castellana, Negros Occidental – As the threat of Mt. Kanlaon’s eruption looms, the safety of residents isn’t the only concern. The municipal government of La Castellana has launched a dedicated task force to ensure the well-being of pets left behind in the volcano’s extended danger zone.
The Mt.Kanlaon Task Force Pet Rescue is working tirelessly to feed and care for animals within the six-kilometer radius, where evacuation orders are in place.

“We’ve received an outpouring of support from residents and organizations,” said Remuel seladan Lajo, the town’s information officer. “Excess food and dog food donations are pouring in, and we’re coordinating with the Mayor’s Office to ensure these supplies reach the animals in need.”
While 54 dogs have been safely evacuated to the la Castellana National High School-Junior High School building, many more remain in Barangays Cabagnaan and Biak na Bato. volunteers are working diligently to count the animals and provide them with food and water until they can be safely evacuated.
The Provincial Veterinary Office is lending a hand, while animal welfare group Bacolod Animal Chance and Hope (BACH) Project has partnered with the task force to facilitate donations.
“Lots of animals need our help,” BACH Project stated in a Facebook post. “Your donations will go a long way in feeding the pets left behind.”
The group is accepting donations of pet food, rice, vegetables, and even containers for food distribution.
As the situation unfolds, the Mt.Kanlaon Task Force Pet Rescue remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all animals affected by the volcano’s activity.

RSL: We are working tirelessly to reach these animals. Volunteers are on the ground in Barangays Cabagnaan and Biak na Bato, diligently counting the animals and providing them with food and water.
ND3: What kind of support has the task force received?
RSL: The response from the community has been simply unbelievable! We’ve received an outpouring of donations—excess pet food, regular food supplies… its truly heartwarming. We are coordinating with the Mayor’s Office to ensure all these generous donations reach the animals in need.
ND3: Have there been any triumphant evacuations of animals so far?
RSL: Yes! We have safely evacuated 54 dogs to the La Castellana National High School-Junior High School building. We’re doing everything we can to move more animals to safety as quickly and safely as possible.
