The move, which occurred‌ without a‌ request from ⁤California’s governor,⁢ prompted immediate reactions from protesters and state officials​ alike.

The deployment follows a series of protests that began after ICE officers executed ​search warrants at ‌multiple locations, including a clothing ‍warehouse in the fashion District. Federal agents cited the use⁢ of fictitious documents by some workers as the reason for the operation.

Tensions ⁣escalated as protesters gathered outside the Metropolitan Detention Centre in downtown Los⁣ Angeles. Similar⁣ confrontations unfolded the previous day​ when federal agents used‍ flash-bang grenades and tear ⁣gas against ⁣demonstrators.

Gov. ‍Gavin Newsom⁢ has called for the immediate withdrawal of the​ National Guard, demanding control be returned‌ to the state. The protests, fueled ⁢by concerns over immigration arrests and detentions, have spread throughout ⁤Los Angeles County.

Sheriff Robert Luna addressed the community, emphasizing the importance of peaceful assembly. “We will⁢ protect your ‍right to peacefully protest, but we will not tolerate violence or destruction of property,” Luna said.
