Michael La⁣ Sasso, a junior at Ole Miss, navigated a challenging round to capture the NCAA individual men’s golf ⁢championship in Carlsbad, Calif., on Monday. La Sasso’s even-par 72, which included recovery ‍from two double bogeys with crucial birdies, propelled him to an 11-under 277 total at La Costa⁣ Resort.

La Sasso’s impressive performance earned him a two-stroke victory over Phichaksn Miachon of Texas A&M. This triumph marks⁣ him as only the second Ole⁣ Miss golfer to claim an NCAA title. The individual ⁤ NCAA golf title also secures La Sasso’s participation in the U.S. Open at Oakmont in two weeks and the Masters Tournament next April.

Adding to⁤ the excitement,‍ Ole Miss secured the eighth and final spot for team match play, advancing by ⁤a single‌ stroke over Florida State. Luke Clanton of Florida State,despite​ two PGA Tour runner-up finishes,faced a tough finish to his collage career as the Seminoles fell short.

La Sasso, starting the ⁣final day with a⁤ two-shot lead, faced adversity with the double bogeys but maintained composure. Miachon, despite an initial surge, couldn’t sustain momentum, carding a final round⁤ of 72.

“I had a little rough patch in the middle of the round, and being able ​to bounce back from that is something truly special,” La Sasso said.
