Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have relocated back to the United Kingdom after six years living in the United States. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex touched down in England on a private flight alongside their two children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, ahead of the upcoming British school term.

Lady Eliza Spencer Reacts to Royal Return

Lady Eliza Spencer, the 34-year-old first cousin of Prince Harry and niece of the late Princess Diana, became the first member of the royal’s side of the family to publicly address the move. Speaking to The Mirror at a launch event for her Lala V rosé brand in London, she shared her thoughts on the family reunion after years apart.

It’s exciting!

Lady Eliza Spencer She added that relatives would love to find time to visit the family following their arrival. When asked by reporters if she planned to swap winemaking tips with Meghan Markle—who launched her own As Ever brand rosé—Lady Eliza kept her response brief, replying, Maybe!

Schooling and New Living Arrangements in Britain

The family of four arrived via a Bombardier Global Express XRS luxury long-range business jet, landing at Birmingham Airport before heading to a non-royal residence outside London, which reports suggest is located in the Cotswolds. The children are enrolled in British schools for the upcoming academic term, with Prince Archie entering Year Five and Princess Lilibet joining a Year Three class. Grace Moody-Stuart, Consultancy Director at The Good Schools Guide, noted in interviews with Hello! that the children may face an adjustment period moving from the American education system. According to Moody-Stuart, British schools maintain a structured curriculum from an early age, meaning transferring students frequently require time to catch up. Furthermore, the school days run longer, often extending past typical primary school hours to accommodate afternoon sports, music, and activities.

Prior UK Visit and Extended Family Ties

The move follows a family trip to the United Kingdom in July, during which the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stayed at Althorp House, the ancestral home of Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer. During that summer visit, the couple took their children to visit Princess Diana’s grave on the estate grounds and met with King Charles at Highgrove for the first time in four years. King Charles was reportedly informed of his son’s relocation plans less than two weeks before the family touched down on British soil. While the Sussexes maintain properties in Montecito, California, and Portugal, they plan to operate as an international family while residing in the UK as private individuals and non-working royals.
