The harbor, heavily damaged in the August 2023 disaster, once again welcomes beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers. Local surfers Eli Hanneman and Levi Young were present for the reopening.
Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen said the community had requested access to the familiar recreational area. He added that the return of wildlife, sand, surfers and beachgoers offers hope.
Access to the harbor is currently limited. The County of Maui provided specific details regarding entry points and parking.
To access the north end of the harbor, the Lahaina Restoration Foundation provides parking at the Baldwin Home lot via Dickenson Street. Ocean access is available via a marked path from Dickenson street to the stairwell makai of the library lot. surfers heading to the Harbors surf spot are encouraged to use this entry.
For the south end, the county-owned parking lot at 500 Front St.is open during daylight hours. Beach access is allowed via a marked path along Kamehameha Iki Park, which remains closed. Surfers going to the Breakwall surf spot or the inside right are encouraged to enter there.

The 2023 wildfires leveled much of Lahaina Harbor, with approximately 80% of the town destroyed, resulting in around $30 million in damages. Residents fled into the ocean to escape the flames.
