A brush fire, dubbed ‍the ‌Lake Fire, broke out near Silverwood Lake ⁤in San Bernardino‍ County on Saturday afternoon, stranding more than 100 people and prompting evacuations. The Lake Fire started around 4 p.m.near Highway 173 and​ Cedar Springs Dam​ Trail, within the Silverwood Lake⁢ State Recreation Area. According to Cal Fire, the blaze rapidly expanded from 60 acres to 478⁤ acres by late evening and remains zero percent contained. ​the brush fire cause is under inquiry.

The initial evacuations involved more than 100 ⁢people at the reservoir. Boaters and‌ jet skiers ⁢assisted in moving people from the beach to a turnout on Highway 173, north of the lake. Many evacuees ⁣were in ⁢beach attire.
