Lalo Schifrin, the Argentinian composer best known for penning the themes too “mission: Impossible” and “Starsky and Hutch,” and also scores for “Dirty Harry” and “Cool Hand Luke,” has died. He was 93.
Schifrin’s decades-long career saw him nominated for six Academy Awards for Best Score.These included nods for “Cool Hand Luke” (1968), “The Fox” (1969), “Voyage of the Damned” (1977), “The Amityville Horror” (1980), “The Competition” (1981), and “The Sting II” (1984). While he created memorable film scores, the role of composer for television was also notable to him.
in 2019, the Academy of Motion picture Arts and sciences presented Schifrin with an honorary Academy Award. He was only the third composer to receive this honor.
