Lamar Jackson Still Haunted by Ravens’ Playoff Loss, Eyes “Vengeance”
Updated June 18, 2025
Owings Mills, Md. — Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, speaking publicly for the first time as the team’s playoff defeat to the Buffalo bills five months ago, admitted the loss still stings. The star quarterback is focused on the upcoming season and a potential Super bowl run.
“We’re going to bounce back,” Jackson said after Tuesday’s minicamp practice. “And when we come back, I feel like we’re going to have vengeance on our mind.”
Jackson, entering his eighth NFL season, boasts a 70-24 record since 2018, the second-best among quarterbacks. He has also led the Ravens to three AFC North titles, including the last two. Though, the multiple NFL MVP has yet to reach a Super Bowl.
In the 27-25 divisional loss to the Bills, Jackson had two first-half turnovers, including an interception and a fumble. When asked how long it took to move past the defeat, Jackson said, “I don’t think I get over any losses, to be honest. I got losses from youth football that still haunt me.”
ravens quarterbacks coach Tee Martin revealed that Jackson has been reviewing film of all his losses this offseason. Martin described the playoff defeat as “a deep-felt loss” for Jackson.
Jackson defended tight end Mark Andrews, who faced criticism on social media after dropping a pass during a late 2-point conversion attempt against Buffalo.A touchdown pass to Isaiah Likely had given the Ravens a chance to tie with just over a minute remaining.
“we wish we would have won the game,” Jackson said. “I wish I didn’t throw that interception. I wish I didn’t fumble. I wish the mishap [with Andrews] didn’t happen. But it happened. It’s just a lesson learned. So next time, we’re going to do something better.”
Jackson declined to discuss his contract situation. He signed a five-year, $260 million deal in 2023, but the team may seek an extension before his 2026 salary cap figure rises to $74.5 million. General Manager Eric DeCosta recently said the team is in the “introductory stage” of extension talks.
“I never discuss contract situations here,” Jackson said.
When told that coach John Harbaugh predicted Jackson would become the NFL’s highest-paid player, Jackson responded, “It sounds good.”
Jackson is also advocating for the Ravens to sign cornerback Jaire Alexander, recently released by the Green Bay Packers. Jackson said he has spoken with Alexander, a former teammate at Louisville.
“Go get him, Eric,” Jackson said, referring to DeCosta. “I love all our corners, don’t get me wrong. But go get him,Eric.”
