Wayne Lordan, hailing from County Cork, achieved his first Betfred Derby win, piloting Lambourn (13/2) to victory at epsom Downs, marking Aidan O’Brien’s 11th triumph in the prestigious race. The Coolmore partners,triumphant owners,celebrated their eighth win in the past 12 years.
Lambourn, a son of Australia, led from the start, mirroring Serpentine’s 2020 strategy, and maintained an unassailable lead down the home straight. The longshot Lazy Griff (50/1), trained by Charlie Johnston and ridden by Christophe Soumillon, finished second, trailing by three and three-quarter lengths.
