Lanaudière, Quebec – A new regional baseball coaching convention is set to launch in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, offering a crucial development opportunity for local coaches. The inaugural event, a partnership between the Élites de Lanaudière and the Royal de Repentigny, will focus on providing workshops tailored to coaches of all experience levels.

The convention aims to supplement the annual province-wide coaching convention organized by Baseball Québec, bringing training closer to coaches in the Lanaudière area. According to Baseball Québec technical coordinator Benjamin Guimond, the regional convention will be held every two years, offering a more accessible and focused learning environment. , marks a significant step in decentralized coaching development within the province.

“Baseball Quebec still organizes a coaches convention annually, but they have agreed to now have a regional convention every 2 years to be closer to the coaches. So this is the first edition,” Guimond explained. “Several topics will be covered: technique, team management, tactics, etc.”

The convention’s curriculum will encompass a broad range of baseball-related topics, from fundamental techniques to advanced strategies in team management and tactical decision-making. This comprehensive approach is designed to cater to coaches with varying levels of experience, ensuring that everyone can benefit from the training provided.

Adding to the convention’s appeal is a strong lineup of instructors. Alongside established figures like Mathieu Granger, Benjamin Guimond, Sébastien Latour, and Jonathan Martin, the event will welcome experienced coaches Karl Gélinas, Youri Babin, Mathieu Dion, and Pascal Gagnon. This blend of seasoned expertise promises a high-quality learning experience for all attendees.

The initiative reflects a broader trend in Canadian baseball towards enhanced coach development. Baseball Canada’s National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) provides a structured pathway for coaches to improve their skills and knowledge, with specific requirements varying by province. Baseball Québec offers its own pathway for coaches looking to become certified, accessible through their website.

The NCCP emphasizes long-term athlete development, creating coachable players, and understanding injury prevention. Provinces like British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador all have specific NCCP requirements for coaches, as outlined on the Baseball Canada website. The convention in Lanaudière is expected to be accredited as annual training by Baseball Québec, potentially contributing towards coaches’ NCCP certification requirements.

The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) also provides resources and benefits for baseball coaches, including liability insurance, discounts, and professional development opportunities. While the Lanaudière convention is focused on the Quebec baseball community, it demonstrates a similar commitment to supporting coaches and improving the quality of baseball instruction.

The establishment of a regional convention in Lanaudière highlights the growing importance of localized training opportunities in sports. By bringing expertise closer to coaches, the event aims to foster a stronger baseball community and improve the overall level of play in the region. The convention’s accreditation by Baseball Québec further solidifies its value as a key component of the province’s coaching development program.

The convention, hosted by the Élites de Lanaudière in partnership with the Royal de Repentigny, represents a significant investment in the future of baseball in the Lanaudière region. It provides a platform for coaches to connect, learn, and share their passion for the game, ultimately benefiting players at all levels. The success of this inaugural event will likely pave the way for future regional conventions across Quebec, further strengthening the province’s baseball infrastructure.

The focus on technique, team management, and tactics underscores the multifaceted nature of effective baseball coaching. Beyond simply teaching the fundamentals of the game, coaches play a crucial role in developing players’ character, fostering teamwork, and creating a positive learning environment. The Lanaudière convention aims to equip coaches with the tools and knowledge they need to excel in all these areas.

With a strong instructor lineup and a comprehensive curriculum, the convention is poised to become a cornerstone of baseball coaching development in the Lanaudière region. The event’s commitment to accessibility and inclusivity ensures that coaches of all backgrounds and experience levels will have the opportunity to participate and contribute to the growth of the sport.
