Updated May 29, 2025
Lancashire Cricket achieved a record operating profit of £4.7 million for the year ending Dec. 31, 2024, despite challenges from weather and a less lucrative cricket schedule. The club’s turnover reached £34.1 million, resulting in a surplus before taxation of £0.2 million.
International and domestic cricket income decreased compared to 2023, which featured an Ashes Test at Emirates Old Trafford. Two major matches, an Australia IT20 and the Roses T20, were rained out. Though, the Sri Lanka Test Match still drew 55,000 spectators.
Vitality Blast ticket sales hit 57,148, including a sold-out roses match. Lancashire’s membership grew to 7,483 in 2024 and has since surpassed 9,000 in 2025. The club’s financial success is attributed to diversified revenue streams, including hotel, conference, and event bookings, which saw a 19% increase compared to 2023.
Construction began in 2024 on Lancashire Cricket’s second ground in Farington,in collaboration with Lancashire County council, scheduled to open in 2026. The on-site Hilton Garden Inn, operating for its first full year with 250 bedrooms, generated more revenue than international cricket for the first time. Emirates Old Trafford also hosted three nights of concerts featuring Foo Fighters and green Day,attracting 150,000 attendees.
In February 2025, Lancashire Cricket entered exclusive negotiations with the RP-Sanjiv Goenka (RPSG) Group, which agreed to acquire a 70% stake in Manchester originals. The club also agreed to sell 21% of its gifted 51% stake from the ECB to the RPSG Group, securing the financial future of Lancashire Cricket and allowing for further investment in facilities and infrastructure.
Angela Lowes, chief financial officer at Lancashire Cricket, said, “The Annual Report for 2024 shows very strong revenue from our non-cricket events, including the first full year of the on-site Hilton Garden Inn hotel operating at full capacity.”
Lowes added that the weather disruptions and the lower profile of the Sri Lanka Test affected cricket income. She emphasized that the RPSG Group investment will help reduce debt and allow for further investment in the cricket department, member facilities, and infrastructure projects at both Emirates Old Trafford and Farington, ensuring the long-term stability of Lancashire Cricket.
What’s next
Looking ahead, Emirates Old Trafford is set to host a major international summer in 2025, including a Men’s Test Match between England and India, a Men’s IT20 between England and South Africa, and a Women’s IT20 between England and India.
