Las Vegas Aces players are focused on building a lasting legacy that extends beyond championships, even as they continue to achieve on-court success. The team won its third WNBA championship in four seasons in 2025, but players and coach Becky Hammon say their ambitions reach further than simply adding to their trophy collection.

Guard Chelsea Gray articulated the team’s mindset during Las Vegas’ media day on Tuesday, stating, “Hunger is still prevalent with this group, just because we’re chasing something that hasn’t been done before. I don’t think anybody’s ever went back-to-back twice (on) two different occasions.” Gray emphasized the team’s desire to “keep building on our legacy.”

While the term “dynasty” is often used to describe the Aces’ recent run of success, Gray clarified that the team is prioritizing a broader impact. According to Gray, the Aces’ legacy will be defined by “how Las Vegas empowers people, shares stories and impacts people it comes into contact with.”

The Aces’ success in 2025 came after a season where they were under .500 at the All-Star break, defying expectations. Coach Becky Hammon described the team as “hungry wolves” last season, a sentiment that appears to still resonate with the players.

A’ja Wilson, a three-time champion with the Aces, expressed her continued drive to prove doubters wrong. She noted that inspiring the next generation of athletes is a key motivator. “The kids make me go,” Wilson said. “The next generation, inspiring them to be able to use their platform, their voice and who they are and live that truth, is what inspires me to continue to be that tangible role for them.”

Wilson acknowledged the appeal of winning, stating, “Yeah, my trophy case is great. Yeah, hanging up banners is great. Rings are flashy.” However, she ultimately emphasized the importance of using her platform to empower young people and help them pursue their dreams.

The Aces’ focus on legacy building reflects a shift in perspective, prioritizing impact and empowerment alongside athletic achievement. The team’s continued success on the court is undeniable, but their ambitions extend far beyond championships.
