Last Chance in the Land of the Pharaohs: Egypt Sets New Deadline for Undocumented Foreigners
Egypt Extends Period for Legalizing Status of Illegal Foreigners
The Egyptian Council of Ministers has agreed to extend the period for legalizing the status of illegal foreigners on its territory. This decision was made in response to a draft resolution proposed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
The extension will allow foreigners living in the country illegally to regulate their status and legalize their residence for an additional year. This decision is subject to the controls and rules outlined in the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 3326 from 2023.
A significant number of Sudanese, Syrians, Yemenis, and other nationalities who are not eligible to live in Egypt or have entered the country illegally will benefit from this decision.
Increased Smuggling Attempts
There has been a surge in Sudanese attempting to enter Egypt through smuggling routes, particularly after the Rapid Aid Forces entered the province of Al-Jazira and other states.
Initially, Egyptian authorities allowed Sudanese fleeing the war to cross into Egypt through simplified procedures, even for those without passports. However, as the war continued, procedures became more complicated, and obtaining a visa became increasingly difficult.
This led many to attempt to enter Egypt through smuggling routes, which has become a significant challenge for authorities.
