English Premier League: Brighton Held to 2-2 Draw, Manchester City Takes Interim Lead
BRIGHTON, UK (Reuters) - The English Premier League saw exciting matches on the 26th, with Kaoru Mitoma’s Brighton ending in a 2-2 draw at home with Wolverhampton.
In the 45th minute of the first half, Brighton launched a counterattack after cutting off the opponent’s goalkeeper’s punt kick, allowing Danny Welbeck to score the first goal. In the 40th minute of the second half, substitute Evan Ferguson found the net and extended the lead.
However, Brighton gave up one point just three minutes later and conceded a goal in stoppage time, resulting in a draw. Mitoma, who started the game, played until the 44th minute of the second half.
Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler expressed his disappointment, saying, “We were too passive and lacked maturity and professionalism today. That’s football, and football can be cruel at times. Today, we were in a bad way. I experienced that.”
Manchester City (Man City) secured a 1-0 win at home against Southampton, with Erling Haaland scoring the opening goal.
Man City have increased their points to 23 and have moved into the interim lead, two points behind Liverpool, who will play Arsenal on the 27th. Brighton are provisionally in fifth place with 16 points.
