Law enforcement officials, state leaders, and the families of fallen officers gathered at the Missouri State Capitol in Jefferson City this weekend for a series of memorial events honoring those who died in the line of duty.

The commemorations, organized by the Missouri Department of Public Safety, took place at the Law Enforcement Memorial located on the north side of the Capitol. The events included a candlelight vigil on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. And a formal memorial service on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

Wall of Honor Additions

During the Saturday ceremony, two names were officially added to the Memorial Wall’s Wall of Honor. The officers recognized were Lieutenant Eddie Mays of the Bernie Police Department and Canine Police Officer Henry Franklin of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

According to reporting from KTLO, the memorial now recognizes a total of 754 fallen officers who served in Missouri.

Statewide Tributes

In conjunction with the memorial services, Governor Mike Kehoe ordered the Missouri State Capitol dome and the Missouri Law Enforcement Memorial to be illuminated in blue. The lighting began at sunset on Friday, May 1, 2026, and remained in place until sunrise on Sunday, May 3, 2026.

The blue lighting served as a visual tribute to the law enforcement community throughout the weekend of remembrance.

The formal service on Saturday was televised and livestreamed via the state’s official website to allow the public and members of the law enforcement community who could not travel to Jefferson City to participate in the event.
