Riga, Latvia – – The Latvian Conference recently hosted its annual staff appreciation event, a gathering that underscored the importance of community and recognition within the organization. Held on in Riga, the event brought together approximately 110 employees and their families, offering a moment to celebrate contributions and reinforce a shared sense of purpose.
More than just a formal acknowledgment of service, the event was designed to foster a deeper connection between staff members and their families, recognizing the support system that enables their work. The program included worship songs, musical performances by families, and a particularly touching surprise for the pastors – a performance by their wives, marking the first time they had performed together as a group. Elīna Ģipsle, wife of the Latvian Conference President, described the gathering as “a great blessing,” emphasizing the joy of witnessing talented individuals come together in gratitude. “Singing with the pastors’ wives was a small project that brought great joy,” she added, noting the event’s ability to create “a little piece of Heaven even here on earth.”
The event organizers prioritized creating an atmosphere of inclusivity and connection. An icebreaker activity at the beginning encouraged participants to learn more about one another. Attendees were given sheets with prompts like “I know three languages” and “I am the oldest child in my family,” and tasked with finding colleagues who matched the descriptions. This simple game proved remarkably effective in sparking conversation and laughter, with all participants “winning” lunch upon completion of their sheets, further incentivizing engagement.
Beyond the social interaction, the event also focused on tangible expressions of appreciation. Each employee received a specially prepared gift, and children were also included with small presents designed to delight. Pastor Miks Možeiko, a local church minister, reflected on the atmosphere, describing it as “cosy and family-like.” He highlighted the significance of recognizing both past achievements and future potential, stating that the event encouraged everyone to “enter the new year of service with a smile.”
The afternoon shifted towards collaborative activities, designed to break down departmental silos and encourage teamwork. Attendees were divided into teams and presented with a series of creative challenges. These included visually representing key events from 2025, composing a new song based on a set of three provided words, and crafting a short New Year’s message intended to inspire and motivate. The exercises intentionally brought together individuals from different generations and departments, fostering a sense of shared ownership and camaraderie. Each team then presented their work, filling the room with laughter and a palpable sense of joy.

Dace Muceniece, the Conference office administrator, offered a behind-the-scenes perspective on the event’s success. She emphasized the role of divine guidance in the planning process, noting how individuals willingly volunteered their talents and resources. Even seemingly minor details, such as sourcing gifts, were unexpectedly provided, which she attributed to answered prayer. “This reminded me how important it is to trust God’s guidance and remain humble in service,” Muceniece stated.
The Latvian Conference’s annual staff appreciation event serves as a compelling example of how organizations can prioritize employee well-being and foster a strong sense of community. By intentionally creating opportunities for connection, recognition, and collaboration, the conference demonstrated a commitment to its staff that extends beyond the professional realm, acknowledging the vital role families play in supporting their work. The event’s emphasis on gratitude, shared experiences, and a positive outlook suggests a strong foundation for continued success in the year ahead.
