“These little imps all have Latvian roots, and it’s significant to know your roots,” said Asnāte, a participant in the New york party. “latvian traditions are what make us unique, what allow us to share our culture.”

Inspired by the folklore group “Garataka,” who traveled from Latvia, New Yorkers learned traditional solstice songs, games, and mask-making techniques. The event culminated in a log-pulling competition,fire offerings,and a feast of traditional Latvian delicacies.
