Latvian Modernists: Cityscapes Exhibition at National Museum
A new exhibition at the Latvian National Museum of Art (LNMM) explores how Latvian modernist artists and writers viewed the rapidly changing cities of the early 20th century. “In the Streets: the City in the View of Latvian modernists” opens January 31, 2026, and runs through july 26, 2026, on the museum’s 4th and 5th floors.
The exhibition, as reported by Diena, focuses on the relationship between urban environments, literature, and art during a period of meaningful conversion in Latvia and across Europe. It examines how Latvian modernists depicted urbanization and the era’s shifts in their work.
visitors will follow the experiences of Latvian poets and artists in three key European cities: riga, Berlin, and Paris. This period saw rapid cultural and societal changes. Artists and writers, often called “flâneurs” and “flâneuses,” became keen observers of city life.
The exhibition promises a unique look at this dynamic period. More facts is available on the LNMM website.
