The FIBA 3×3 U23 world Cup begins on wednesday, September 17, in Sjonggan, China. Twenty teams will participate in the men’s and women’s tournaments, competing in group play before advancing to the playoffs.
The tournament,first held in 2018,will culminate in quarterfinals,semi-finals,and medal games on Sunday,September 21. The 2020 and 2021 tournaments were also held, making this the sixth edition of the event.
latvian Team Details
The Latvian team-Daniil Smirnov, Marcis Osis, Dāvis Skreivers, and Mārtiņš Bumbieris-is seeded fifth and placed in group D. They qualified for the U23 world Cup by winning first place in the U23 Nations League Tournament in Group 3 this summer.
marcis Osis is competing in the U23 World Cup for the second consecutive year.
Group Play Schedule
Latvia’s first games are scheduled for Thursday,september 18:
- 11:15 AM against Fiji
- 1:45 PM against China
Further group play continues on Saturday,September 20:
- 11:15 AM against the United States
- 1:45 PM against Qatar
Playoff Structure
The top two teams from Group D will advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday,September 21,where they will face teams from Group B (Czech Republic,Egypt,France,New Zealand,Serbia).
Other groups include:
- Group A: croatia, Iran, Lithuania, Poland, Germany
- Group C: Algeria, Argentina, Italy, Mongolia, Venezuela
past Performance
Latvia’s best result in the U23 world Cup came in the inaugural 2018 tournament, where Armands Ginters, Linards Jaunzems, Nils Ozoliņš, and Roberts Paže won silver medals. The team finished 8th in 2019, 5th in 2022, and 12th in 2024. Latvia did not participate in the 2023 tournament.
