actress Lelde Dreimane’s sister,Liene Dreimane, has announced her resignation from the party Platform 21, which both represented in the last elections, as a member of the board and her departure from the political party, which she joined in 2024.
“I have reasonable suspicions that the actual party leadership and board meetings have been taking place without my presence since June 2025, and that persons not related too the party are illegally involved in the party’s activities. The use of state funding also raises serious questions,” her statement reads, to which Liene has attached a table to illustrate that state funding may have been used improperly.
Liene has expressed suspicions that it is a “private project of board members Agris Freifalds and Jānis Ronis, and also their friends, rather than a state-funded democratic party.”
“I consider it my duty to warn other active citizens and supporters of ideas about possible disappointment.
I am also resolving the situation legally, by applying to the responsible authorities,” Liene said.
“The political party Platform 21 is pleased with the self-purification from people who see only selfish interests in the political process,” the party board said in a statement, where Liene was the only paid employee.”It is indeed a pity that internal disputes within the institution with paid employees are deliberately brought to the public, but simultaneously occurring it is an opportunity to put an end to unsuccessful cooperation and to inform more widely about its position and plans,” said Agris Freifalts, a member of the party board, commenting on the public statement by the former member of the party board, Liene Dreimane, about her resignation from the board and the party.
A Latvian political commentator is criticizing a politician for prioritizing self-promotion over core job duties. Freivalds described the situation as a “conceptual contradiction,” noting that Liene Dreimane, like many politicians, appeared focused on personal gain and comfort rather than creating value.
“She advertised her lifestyle and personal views on political processes on social media, but didn’t fulfill the simple daily work tasks defined as the sole responsibility of a paid party office employee,” Freivalds said. “Perhaps it can also be seen as a generational conflict.”
Jānis Ronis,a board member of Platforma 21,recalls a promising start to their collaboration when forming the first all-women list for Riga municipal elections. “there were many ideas and many promises, which sadly remained unfulfilled due to unskilled and undisciplined administration.”
“There was a lot of emotion, a lot of unnecessary arguments, offenses, and grievances.”
Ronis did not elaborate further.
