Ávila, Spain – Promoting the emotional and physical well-being of its senior citizens, the Ávila City Council is hosting a series of engaging workshops, including one dedicated to the power of laughter.
Nearly 50 seniors are participating in the risotherapy workshops, held at two locations: the Jesús Jiménez Bustos Senior Centre and the Vicente Ferrer Center. Led by Juan José Severo, a theater director, the workshops utilize a variety of techniques to elicit laughter.
“Laughter is truly contagious,” Severo explained. “Through games, dynamics, and exercises that blend risotherapy, yoga laughter, and even improvisation, we aim to foster connections, boost confidence, and cultivate a sense of humor among participants.”
The workshops,which run for four one-hour sessions,are designed to achieve more than just a good chuckle.
“Our goal is to improve the overall quality of life for our seniors,” said Paloma del Nogal, Deputy Mayor for Social Services, who visited the workshop at the Jesús Jiménez Bustos Center. “Risotherapy, along with our other workshops on practical English, digital skills, and cooking, helps reduce stress, release negative emotions, and promote self-care.”
The city council’s commitment to senior well-being is evident in these initiatives, which aim to create a more vibrant and fulfilling life for Ávila’s older adults.
