PAUL, MN – Monticello High School’s Lauren Hansen capped off her gymnastics career with a flourish, securing the Class AA All-Around title at the Minnesota State High School League’s Girls Gymnastics State Meet on at Roy Wilkins Auditorium. This victory adds another All-Around championship to Hansen’s impressive resume, following her previous title in Class A.
Hansen’s performance on Saturday was marked by both skill, and emotion. After completing her final routine, the Floor Exercise, she visibly reacted to the weight of the moment, embracing teammates and coaches. “I was definitely very emotional,” Hansen said. “All my hard work finally paid off in that moment. It was overwhelming.”
Her winning All-Around score totaled 38.65. Hansen didn’t just excel in the All-Around competition; she also claimed gold on the Uneven Bars with a score of 9.625. This marks the second consecutive year she’s been a state champion on the Uneven Bars, having won the Class A title last year.
The competition was fierce, with East Ridge senior Laney Schwellenbach finishing as the All-Around runner-up with a score of 38.4. North/Tartan senior Sydney Johnson earned the bronze medal in the All-Around, posting a score of 38.375. Johnson also had a standout performance, winning state titles in both the Balance Beam (9.7) and Floor Exercise (9.75).
“I was not expecting this at all,” Johnson admitted, reflecting on her unexpected success. “Like, at all. I worked hard for it, though.”
Hopkins senior NyahSymone Britt also delivered a memorable performance, achieving a score of 9.85 to win the Vault title.
Hansen’s consistency throughout the State Meet was a key factor in her success. She played a crucial role in leading the Monticello Magic to the Class AA team title on . She attributed her achievements to dedicated preparation and a strong support system. “It’s definitely reps and working hard in the offseason, but my coaches and teammates push me so hard and they’re so supportive,” Hansen explained.
Beyond the top finishers, several other Monticello gymnasts contributed to a strong showing for the Magic. Keatyn Nowacki finished fifth in the All-Around with a score of N/A, and also placed third on the Uneven Bars (N/A). Alana Becklund finished 11th on the Uneven Bars (N/A), Sienna Zepeda placed 14th on the Uneven Bars (N/A), and Madi Hengel of St. Cloud Crush finished 17th on the Uneven Bars (N/A).
In the Vault competition, Hansen finished fourth (N/A), while Nowacki placed eighth (N/A) and Becklund finished 14th (N/A). On the Balance Beam, Hansen secured a third-place finish (N/A), with Hengel finishing fifth (N/A) and Nowacki placing 15th (N/A). Hansen also finished fourth on the Floor Exercise (N/A), with Nowacki finishing ninth (N/A).
In Class A competition, Alyse Denne of Becker finished sixth in the All-Around (N/A), while Calla Morris of Big Lake placed 12th (N/A) and Rylie Harrier of New London-Spicer finished 20th (N/A). Celia Schoenberg of Melrose excelled on the Uneven Bars, finishing fourth (N/A), while Denne placed 14th (N/A) and Morris finished 19th (N/A).
The Minnesota State High School League’s Girls Gymnastics State Meet showcased a wealth of talent and determination, culminating in a memorable victory for Lauren Hansen and a host of other impressive performances across both Class AA and Class A competitions.
