Lauren Laverne Returns to Radio: Inspiring Comeback After Cancer Diagnosis

BBC presenter Lauren Laverne will return to work this month after a cancer diagnosis. She will start recording episodes of BBC One’s The One Show and BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in November. Laverne had been absent for about three months.

A BBC spokesperson said they are happy to welcome Laverne back to the studio for these shows. New episodes of Desert Island Discs will air on Radio 4 from December 1, and Laverne will also be back on BBC Radio 6 Music in the new year.

Laverne last hosted her show on 15 August. Since then, other presenters like Nick Grimshaw and Nemone Metaxas have taken over. The last new episode of Desert Island Discs featured Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, which aired on August 11. Extended editions of the show have been running in her absence.

Laverne will release a new episode of Desert Island Discs on December 1. This episode will be a pre-recorded interview with comedian Mark Steel, conducted before her leave. She is set to record more episodes and special Christmas editions soon.

On August 21, Laverne announced her cancer diagnosis, stating it was detected early during a screening test. She expressed confidence in her full recovery and thanked her family, friends, and colleagues for their support during this time. Laverne has not disclosed the type of cancer she has.
