Indian manufacturer Lava International launched its Agni 4N 5G smartphone in the United Kingdom on September 4, entering a competitive mid-tier market dominated by established brands like Google and Samsung. Priced at £499 and sold through Amazon, the device features a MediaTek Dimensity 8350 processor, a 5,000mAh battery with 66W fast charging, and an in-house AI platform named Vayu AI, according to Devneet Bohidar, Head of Product at Lava.
Hardware specifications and pricing strategy
The Agni 4N aims to secure a foothold in the £400 to £600 price bracket by offering hardware configurations typically reserved for higher-tier models. According to Bohidar, the smartphone pairs its MediaTek processor with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The chassis combines an aluminum alloy metal frame with a glass back, housing a 6.67-inch AMOLED display. For imaging, the device includes a 50-megapixel optical image stabilization main camera and a 50-megapixel front-facing camera, both capable of recording video at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. Power management is handled by a 5,000mAh high-density battery that supports fast charging from zero to 50 percent in under 19 minutes.
Software approach and Vayu AI integration
To differentiate the Agni 4N from competitors, Lava ships the device with stock Android 16 and zero pre-installed bloatware. Bohidar stated that this software philosophy provides a clean, user-first experience without unnecessary applications. The handset also integrates Vayu AI, the company’s proprietary artificial intelligence platform.
Market entry and competitive positioning
Lava’s entry into the United Kingdom arrives during a challenging period for the global smartphone industry, marked by rising memory costs and declining unit sales. Despite these headwinds, Bohidar noted that the company views the region as a vital testing ground due to its tech-aware consumer base and its proximity to key industry infrastructure like ARM in Cambridge.

The company plans a measured rollout, beginning exclusively with online sales through Amazon to gauge consumer response. For local after-sales support and warranty fulfillment, Lava partnered with SBE Ltd to provide a 24-month handset warranty, including a two-year replacement policy for hardware defects. While the hardware remains largely identical to the Indian version of the phone, the United Kingdom variant includes Near Field Communication payment support to align with local usage patterns.
