Aston Martin Valkyrie Returns to Le Mans Top Tier
Updated June 28, 2025
The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a unique car race where teams cover a distance equivalent to over 70% of a Formula One season in a single day, maintaining high average speeds continuously.
Sixty-two cars, each with three drivers, competed in three classes from 4 p.m. Saturday to 4 p.m.Sunday at the Circuit de la Sarthe in 2025. The Hypercar class featured brands such as Ferrari, Porsche, Toyota, Alpine, Peugeot, BMW, and Cadillac, but Aston Martin stood out.
Aston Martin is a familiar presence in the GT3 class, with its Vantage-based racers achieving multiple class wins and pole position in 2025. However, the brand hadn’t participated in the top tier, previously known as LMP1, since 2011, and its last outright Le Mans victory was in 1959.

Valkyrie’s Return
The 2025 Le Mans race marked Aston Martin’s return to the top tier, with its pair of Valkyrie racers being the only Hypercar competitors based on a road car. While Ferrari offers a track-only car based on its 499P racer, Aston Martin provides Le mans-spec Valkyries for its customers, uniquely aiming for an outright Le Mans win with a racing version of a road car.
Aston Martin confirmed its Valkyrie’s Le Mans entry in late 2023, following the unveiling of the AM-RB 001 concept car seven years prior. This concept, with RB signifying Red Bull’s Adrian Newey’s involvement, evolved into the Valkyrie. Newey, now with Aston Martin’s F1 team, initially envisioned the Valkyrie as the ultimate road-legal supercar. As then, 150 road-going Valkyrie coupes, 80 convertible Spyders, and 40 track-only AMR Pro versions have been produced.
