Le “Saint-Ex” de Pablo Agüero avec Louis Garrel mise sur la puissance du rêve – rts.ch
Saint-Ex: A Daring rescue Inspires a Literary Legend
Louis Garrel stars in a new film exploring the harrowing true story behind Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s iconic “The Little Prince.”
While most know Antoine de Saint-Exupéry as the beloved author of “The Little Prince,” few realise the depth of his adventurous spirit. A pilot, explorer, and reporter, Saint-Exupéry’s life was a tapestry woven with daring exploits.
director Pablo Agüero’s new film, ”Saint-Ex,” delves into a pivotal moment in the author’s life: the daring rescue of his friend, Henri Guillaumet, lost in the treacherous Andes Mountains.
“I knew I had to choose the key moment, the moment when Antoine de Saint-Exupéry becomes himself, the moment he forged his identity as a pilot and writer,” Agüero explains.”And it was during the search for his missing friend Guillaumet that he found the inspiration for ‘The Little Prince,’ which he would write ten years later.”
In 1930, guillaumet, a fellow pioneer of aviation, crashed his plane amidst a blinding snowstorm at an altitude of 3,250 meters. Defying the odds and risking his own life, Saint-Exupéry embarked on a perilous journey to find his friend.
“Saint-Ex” blends historical accuracy with fictional elements, crafting a captivating adventure story with philosophical undertones.
“This rescue has something completely incredible about it,” Agüero says. “When they reunite on that mountain, they don’t know if they will survive. And than they encounter people living up there in unfeasible conditions, like this shepherd who lives alone with his sheep in -20 degree weather.”
Starring Louis Garrel as Saint-Exupéry, Vincent Cassel as Guillaumet, and Diane Kruger as Noëlle Guillaumet, “saint-Ex” offers a glimpse into the extraordinary events that shaped one of literature’s most enduring classics.

“Saint-ex”: A Dreamlike Journey into the heart of antoine de Saint-Exupéry
New Film Explores the Power of Inventiveness and the Life of a Literary Icon
LOS ANGELES, CA – A new film, “Saint-Ex,” takes audiences on a captivating journey into the life and mind of famed French aviator and author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Directed by Pablo Agüero, the film starring Louis Garrel as Saint-Exupéry, offers a unique and visually stunning interpretation of the man behind the beloved children’s classic, “The Little Prince.”
Agüero’s film departs from traditional biographical narratives, choosing rather to delve into the power of dreams and imagination that fueled Saint-Exupéry’s life and work.
“Saint-Exupéry represents for me the power of dreams,” Agüero explains.”Dreams are not something to be denied. They are a force for conquering oneself, for surpassing limitations, and for political engagement.”
The film’s striking aesthetic, characterized by shimmering silver and gold hues, ethereal lighting, and dreamlike sets, reflects this emphasis on the power of imagination. Agüero spent six months filming in the Andes Mountains and Patagonia, capturing breathtaking landscapes that were later incorporated into the studio-based production.
“We invented a method of filmmaking to achieve this aesthetic,” Agüero clarifies, refuting the notion that the film’s unique look is a byproduct of studio filming.
“Saint-Ex” explores the idea that dreaming can be a catalyst for creating new realities.
“Being ‘out of touch with reality’ can actually be a way of forging a new one,” Agüero suggests. “And that’s what Saint-Exupéry represents for me.”
The film highlights the idea that dreaming can be a source of strength, allowing individuals to achieve feats that might seem impossible to those who are solely grounded in reality.
“I wanted to make a film that shows us that someone can first dream,” Agüero says. “And becuase they dream, they can ultimately be more powerful than someone who is simply strong and a skilled pilot. That’s a true force.”
“Saint-Ex” promises to be a visually stunning and thought-provoking cinematic experience, inviting audiences to explore the enduring legacy of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and the power of dreams.
