Leah Edmond: MLV Player of the Week – Atlanta Vibe Star Shines

ATLANTA, GA – Atlanta Vibe outside hitter Leah Edmond has been named Major League Volleyball’s Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. The award, presented by Franklin Sports, recognizes Edmond’s dominant performance in the Vibe’s 3-2 road victory over the Orlando Valkyries on .
Edmond, a standout performer for the Vibe, delivered a season-high 24 kills and a double-double with 12 digs in the hard-fought win. Her offensive efficiency was particularly impressive, boasting a .447 hitting percentage and a 51% kill percentage. She also contributed two aces, one block, and one assist, showcasing her all-around impact on the game.
This marks the third time in her career that Edmond has received the weekly honor. The recognition comes as no surprise, as Edmond continues to lead the Vibe in both kills (151) and points (168) this season. She’s consistently been a force on the court, recording four matches with 20 or more kills and surpassing the 20-point mark five times in .
“She’s just a phenomenal player,” said a Vibe team representative, declining to be named. “Her ability to score, defend, and contribute in so many ways makes her incredibly valuable to our team.”
Edmond’s performance against Orlando was a key factor in securing the Vibe’s second consecutive victory. The team is now 4-4 on the season, demonstrating a recent surge in form. She has reached double figures in points and kills in every game this season, and has registered double-digit digs in six of her eight appearances. In Atlanta’s two most recent victories, she has maintained an efficiency of .377.
The League MVP and First Team Selection has quickly established herself as one of the premier players in Major League Volleyball. Prior to joining the PVF, Edmond enjoyed a decorated collegiate career at the University of Kentucky, where she earned four AVCA All-America and All-Region selections, and was named SEC Player of the Year in both and . She finished her college career as the Wildcats’ all-time leader with 1,978 kills and 4,655 attack attempts.
Edmond’s success isn’t limited to the collegiate and professional levels. She also has experience playing professionally in Athletes Unlimited (USA) from –, winning the AU Championship in , and with Valencianas de Juncos in Puerto Rico from –.
The Vibe will look to continue their momentum as they travel to face the Grand Rapids Rise on at 7 pm ET. The team is currently practicing at Georgia State University Sports Arena and is available for media interviews throughout the week.
