Lebanon Ablaze: Israel and Hezbollah Engage in Fierce Firefight, Unleashing the Heaviest Bombardment in Years
Escalating Conflict: Israel and Hezbollah Exchange Heavy Fire
Israel and Hezbollah have engaged in intense fighting, with Israeli warplanes conducting the most extensive bombing in almost a year in southern Lebanon. In response, Hezbollah launched rockets deep into northern Israel.
The Israeli military reported targeting approximately 290 sites, including thousands of Hezbollah rocket launchers, and stated that it would continue to strike the Iran-backed movement’s targets.
As a precautionary measure, Israel closed schools and restricted gatherings in many northern areas, including the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
Sirens sounded throughout the night as missiles and rockets were fired from Lebanon and Iraq, with most being intercepted by Israeli air defense systems.
Several buildings were hit, including a severely damaged house near the Israeli city of Haifa. Rescue teams treated the injured, and residents were instructed to stay near bomb shelters and safe rooms.
The Escalating Conflict Between Israel and Hezbollah
Hezbollah claimed to have targeted Israel’s Ramat David air base with dozens of missiles in response to “repeated Israeli attacks on Lebanon.” This was announced on the group’s Telegram channel.
The successive barrages of rocket attacks launched by Hezbollah in Ramat David are the deepest blows it has claimed since the start of the war.
The conflict, which has escalated sharply in the past week, began when Hezbollah opened a second front against Israel after Israel went to war with Hamas in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza.
Iraqi militants backed by Iran claimed an explosive drone attack on Israel.
The UN Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasscharet, emphasized that “with the region on the brink of imminent disaster, it is not an exaggeration to say: NO military solution will make both sides safer.”
