Lebanon and Hizbullah Agree to US-Proposed Ceasefire Talks with Israel
Title: Lebanon and Hezbollah Agree to Ceasefire Proposal with Israel
Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — The government of Lebanon and the militia Hezbollah have accepted a ceasefire proposal with Israel, suggested by the United States.
Ali Hassan Khalil, an aide to Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, announced that Lebanon has submitted a written response to the U.S. Ambassador in Lebanon to continue discussions.
Hezbollah supports the Lebanese government’s negotiations regarding the ceasefire. Khalil stated, “Lebanon shared its comments on the ceasefire document in a positive atmosphere.”
He emphasized that all comments reaffirm Lebanon’s commitment to comply with all stipulations of UN Resolution 1701. This resolution ended the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel in 2006, prohibiting Hezbollah from operating in the area between the Lebanon-Israel border and the Litani River.
Khalil noted that the success of this initiative now depends on Israel. He warned that if Israel does not seek a solution, it could create numerous problems.
Israel has long argued that Resolution 1701 has not been fully implemented, citing the presence of Hezbollah militia and weapons along the border. Likewise, Lebanon accuses Israel of violations, including flying military aircraft in its airspace.
