Lebanon on High Alert: Serial Bombings Spark Widespread Fear of Tapped Communication Equipment
Lebanon Under Attack: Hezbollah Faces Large-Scale Pager Bombings
September 19, 2024
A series of devastating explosions targeting pagers and walkie-talkies has rocked Lebanon, leaving a trail of destruction and fear in its wake. The attacks, which have resulted in multiple casualties, have sparked widespread panic among the local population.
Nabih Bulos, the Middle East bureau director of the Los Angeles Times, has spoken out about the growing sense of unease among Lebanese citizens. In an interview with CNN, Bulos revealed that rumors are circulating, advising people to disable their Wi-Fi routers or remove batteries from certain devices. ”People are worried that ordinary objects in their homes are a source of deep fear,” he said.
Bulos, who is currently in Beirut, expressed concerns that another wave of attacks may be imminent. The Lebanese capital is on high alert, with residents bracing themselves for potential further violence.
Hezbollah, a militant group that has long been a dominant force in Lebanon, has traditionally prioritized secrecy as a cornerstone of its military strategy. However, this approach has proven ineffective in preventing the penetration of Israeli and American spyware.
Earlier this year, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah instructed local members and their families to discard their mobile phones to prevent Israel from tracking their movements. However, this measure has failed to prevent the group’s communications network from being severely compromised.
According to Bulos, Hezbollah’s deliberate evasion of surveillance has exposed “the tip of the iceberg of a much larger series of intelligence failures over the past few months.” The group’s communications network has been severely damaged, and a complete overhaul is necessary to prevent further penetration.
Escalating Tensions Between Israel and Lebanon
The recent attacks have intensified the ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon. The British government has issued a warning, urging citizens to leave Lebanon immediately.
