Iran’s Supreme Leader Responds to Hezbollah Leader’s Death
Iranian leader Ali Khamenei has issued a statement following the Israeli military’s announcement of the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, considered Iran’s most powerful faction in the region.
Khamenei emphasized that “the fate of the region will be determined by the axis of resistance led by Hezbollah,” in a message published on his website.
He called on “all Muslims to stand by Lebanon and Hezbollah in all their ways and help them confront their occupying, unjust and evil regime.”
Despite the loss of the party, which has been described as “Iran’s crown jewel”, Khamenei considered that Israel was too weak to seriously damage Hezbollah’s structure.
He emphasized that Lebanon would make Israel regret its actions, without mentioning any Iranian role in the matter.
Hezbollah’s Leadership Headquarters Attacked
The statements came in addition to a major strike at the party’s leadership headquarters in Haret Harik, a southern suburb of Beirut, Hezbollah’s stronghold, which was hit by more than 40 Israeli raids.
This comes after several sources confirmed that a state of unrest and recrimination has spread among Hezbollah’s ranks, following numerous positions initiated by Iranian officials over the past few days.
Iran’s Stance on the Matter
Iranian President Massoud Pezheshkian confirmed that his country does not want to get involved in a full-scale war, and is ready to discuss its nuclear program with the West.
