Leclerc Reveals Chassis Issue Ruined Hungarian Grand Prix Podium Chance
Charles Leclerc has revealed a meaningful chassis issue derailed his promising Hungarian Grand Prix, ultimately costing him a potential podium finish. The Ferrari driver, who finished fourth after receiving a five-second time penalty for driving erratically, initially misdiagnosed the problem while battling on track.
Frustration Mounts as Leclerc Details Chassis Problem
after crossing the finish line in P4, Leclerc expressed his disappointment, initially believing the loss of pace stemmed from factors within the teamS control. However, a post-race analysis uncovered a more serious issue.
“From around Lap 40 we had a problem with the chassis, so now I’ve had more details about it,” Leclerc explained. “In the car, obviously, I had no idea what was going on. I mean I had an idea, but it was a wrong idea because I thought it was something that was in our control.”
The ferrari driver emphasized the frustration of losing competitive advantage due to a mechanical fault. “Unfortunately, we had an issue on the chassis, so I don’t have much to add on that. It’s just extremely frustrating when you are fighting for a win and when we had the pace that we had at the beginning of the race, and we lose absolutely everything later on, it’s very frustrating.”
Summer break Begins with Disappointment
The Hungarian Grand Prix marked the end of the first phase of the Formula 1 season, leading to questions about Leclerc’s mindset heading into the summer break. His response was candid and reflected his deep disappointment.
“Very disappointed,” he conceded. “I don’t take any positives from this weekend when we ended the weekend like that.”
Leclerc underscored the importance of capitalizing on opportunities for victory. “When we have one opportunity in a year to win a race, we need to take it and today we didn’t. Now we will analyze what are the reasons why we had this problem. I don’t think it’s anything that we had in our control, but we’ll check.”
The team will undoubtedly conduct a thorough inquiry during the break to understand the root cause of the chassis issue and prevent a recurrence in the second half of the season. For Leclerc, the summer break offers a chance to regroup and refocus, but the sting of a lost opportunity in Hungary will likely linger.
