Charles Leclerc has lauded Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur for his “incredible vision” and ability to maintain composure, describing thes qualities as crucial for navigating teh intense emotional landscape of the Scuderia. Speaking about Vasseur’s impact over the past two-and-a-half years, Leclerc highlighted the Frenchman’s unique approach to leadership within the iconic Italian team.
A Steady Hand in a Sea of Emotion
Leclerc emphasized the inherent passion that defines Ferrari, acknowledging that this deep emotional connection is both a strength and a potential challenge. ”I think what’s very difficult within Ferrari is the emotion is very much part of the daily job,” Leclerc explained. “Italian people in general – and that’s what makes Ferrari so special – are extremely passionate about Ferrari.”
Though, he pointed out Vasseur’s remarkable capacity to detach from this pervasive emotion and maintain a clear strategic focus.”But Fred really knows how to leave his emotions aside and have a clear vision of where we are at, no matter how much noise ther is around the team. This is very, very critically important.” This ability to remain grounded, even amidst external pressures and internal fervor, is a trait Leclerc finds especially valuable.
Driving Performance through Vision and Extraction
Beyond his emotional regulation, leclerc also credited Vasseur with fostering a more effective working environment. “Apart from that, he’s got obviously many more qualities. One of them is also to extract the maximum out of every single person at the factory,” Leclerc stated. He believes this focus on maximizing individual potential, when combined with Vasseur’s overarching vision, creates a meaningful positive impact on the team’s overall performance.
When pressed on the specific changes Vasseur has implemented, Leclerc reiterated the importance of his vision.”He definitely changed the way we are working on different things,” Leclerc confirmed. “Again, I think where Fred made the biggest difference is his vision, his overall vision. This he definitely embedded into the team and that’s very, very important.”
Leclerc further elaborated on how Vasseur’s leadership style benefits the team, particularly during challenging periods.”As I said, I feel like the beauty of Ferrari is the fact that emotionally speaking it’s always quite intense, but it can also harm us in some ways, especially when tougher times arrive,” he admitted.
In these critical moments, Vasseur’s calm demeanor proves invaluable. “Fred has always had very cold blood in those moments and helped the team to just be a little bit more lucid,” Leclerc concluded. “That’s probably the biggest thing that Fred brought to the team.” This ability to maintain clarity and make rational decisions under pressure is seen as a cornerstone of Vasseur’s accomplished tenure so far.
