Lee Cheuk-yao, ranked 15th in the world, and Lei Lanxi, ranked 33rd in the world, had never played against each other before. Lee Cheuk-yao had previously eliminated China’s Luk Guangzu in the first round and narrowly defeated Malaysia’s Liang Junhao to advance to the top 8.
In the first game, Lee Cheuk-yao was at a disadvantage in the early stages but managed to tie the score at 9:9 and overtake the lead at 14:11. He won the first game 21:16. In the second game, Lei Lanxi had a slight advantage with his delicate control of the ball, and Lee Cheuk-yao was tied 15:21.
The decisive game saw Lei Lanxi gradually gain the advantage, and Lee Cheuk-yao was at a disadvantage in the duel at the net. He lost 14:21 and stopped in the top 8.
After the match, Lee Cheuk-yao expressed dissatisfaction with his performance but believed he had found room to improve. “I’m not very proficient yet. I hope the process won’t take too long,” he said. He also looked forward to next week’s China Open, stating that he would focus on improving his mentality, physical fitness, and overall game.
Lee Cheuk-yao’s coach, Wong Chung-han, was present at the match, as well as Ma Junwei, who came to watch the game.
