Hong Kong Badminton Open: Lee Cheuk-yao Loses to⁢ Lei ⁣Lanxi in Quarterfinals

Hong ‌Kong badminton men’s singles star Lee Cheuk-yao competed in the‍ top 8 of the “Li-Ning 2024 ​Hong Kong Open Badminton Championship” ⁢against Chinese player Lei Lanxi for a spot in the top 4.‌ Unfortunately, Lee Cheuk-yao lost 1:2 in three games, ⁤missing ⁤the chance to‌ advance to the top four.

Lee Cheuk-yao, ⁣ranked 15th in‍ the world, ⁣and⁢ Lei Lanxi, ranked 33rd in​ the ‍world, had ⁢never ‌played against each other before. Lee Cheuk-yao had previously eliminated China’s Luk Guangzu in the first round and narrowly defeated Malaysia’s⁤ Liang ⁤Junhao to advance to the top 8.

In the first game,​ Lee Cheuk-yao‌ was at a disadvantage in⁤ the early stages ⁤but ​managed to tie the score at ⁤9:9 and overtake the lead‌ at 14:11. ‌He won the first game 21:16. In⁢ the second game, Lei Lanxi had a ‍slight advantage with his delicate control of the ⁣ball, and Lee Cheuk-yao was tied 15:21.

The decisive game ‍saw Lei Lanxi gradually gain the ⁢advantage, and Lee‌ Cheuk-yao ⁢was at⁣ a disadvantage ⁢in the duel at ‍the net. He lost 14:21 and stopped in the top 8.

After the match, Lee Cheuk-yao expressed dissatisfaction with his⁤ performance but believed he had found room to⁢ improve. “I’m ⁤not very proficient yet.‌ I ‌hope ⁣the process won’t take too long,” he said. He also looked forward to next week’s China Open, stating that⁢ he would‍ focus on​ improving his mentality, physical fitness, and ⁣overall game.

Lee Cheuk-yao’s coach, Wong Chung-han, was present at the match, ‍as well as Ma Junwei, who came to watch the game.
