Lee Jae-myeong, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, met with residents of Ganghwa-gun, Incheon, who are suffering noise damage due to North Korea’s broadcasts to South Korea, and urged them to raise their voices against the issue.

At a residents’ meeting held at the Dangsan-ri Village Hall in Songhae-myeon, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon, Representative Lee emphasized the importance of residents speaking out against the noise pollution caused by North Korea’s broadcasts. He stated that the opposition party has no power to stop the broadcasts easily, especially since the cancellation of the September 19 military agreement.

Representative Lee shared a personal anecdote about a woman who came to the National Assembly and cried about the issue, saying it was heartbreaking. He emphasized that the issue is not just a personal matter, but a collective concern that affects everyone. He repeated the importance of residents raising their voices, saying that it is crucial for creating a situation where there is no need to fight and to live in peace.

Representative Lee also pointed out that South Korea is one of the world’s top five military powers and has a relative advantage over North Korea due to the ROK-US alliance. He emphasized that a strong person’s real skill is to control their power and maintain peace, and that a truly strong person and the head of the household is in charge of the family and prioritizes their safety and well-being.

The meeting was attended by the chairman of the Dangsan-ri Senior Citizens’ Association in Songhae-myeon and the mayor of Songhae-myeon. The mayor reported that the noise level rises to 81 decibels due to the repetition of unpleasant mechanical sounds such as sirens, causing sleep disorders and other damages to residents. A total of 4,700 residents in three townships are suffering from the noise pollution.

Representative Lee asked questions about the noise levels and the causes of the noise pollution, and responded to the residents’ concerns with empathy and understanding.
