Qi Shaoqian, renowned Hong Kong actor, has left an indelible mark on the world of martial arts cinema.
Foreign news agencies reported on September 15, 2024, that Chi Shaoqian, also known as Chui Siu-keung, a Hong Kong actor famous since the 1980s, passed away at the age of 73 due to esophageal cancer in Beijing, China.
Tian Qiwen, a fellow Hong Kong actor and director, confirmed the news, while Erica Qi, Qi Shaoqian’s daughter, paid tribute to her father with a heartfelt message on social media, saying “I Love You!” and sharing the song ”You are the greatest legend in my life” by Zhang Xueyou.
Early Life and Career
Qi Shaoqian was born on October 16, 1950, in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. He grew up with an older sister and a businessman father. After graduating from Lingdong School, he worked as a debt collector at a foreign bank and later as an accounting clerk at the stock exchange.
Feeling unfulfilled in his job, Qi Shaoqian took his friend’s advice and joined Shaw Brothers to study acting in 1972. This marked the beginning of his illustrious career in the entertainment industry.
Rise to Fame
Qi Shaoqian made his film debut in 1974 with a minor role in “The Savage Five,” starring alongside Ti Lung, David Jiang, and Chen Guantai. He continued to work with Shaw Brothers, eventually landing the iconic role of Hun Pueyang in the 1979 martial arts drama “Krabi Unrivaled.”
This breakthrough performance catapulted Qi Shaoqian to fame throughout Asia, cementing his status as a legendary figure in Hong Kong and Thai television circles.
