What Happened?
LEGO and Paramount+ unveiled a teaser trailer on November 27,2023,confirming the long-awaited Star Trek LEGO sets. The announcement followed months of speculation and leaks within the LEGO enthusiast community. The teaser showcased glimpses of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 and the U.S.S. Voyager, hinting at initial set focuses.
Why This Matters: A Galactic Convergence
This collaboration represents a important milestone for both brands. For LEGO,it expands their portfolio into a hugely popular and enduring science fiction franchise. The LEGO Group reported a revenue of 8.31 billion Danish kroner (approximately $1.2 billion USD) in the first half of 2023, demonstrating the continued strength of the brand. Star Trek, meanwhile, boasts a global fanbase estimated at over 180 million, according to paramount GlobalS investor reports.
What Sets Can We Expect?
While LEGO and Paramount+ have remained tight-lipped about specific sets, the teaser trailer and industry rumors suggest several possibilities. Initial speculation centers around:
- U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701): A highly anticipated set, likely a large-scale model.
- U.S.S. Voyager: Another popular ship, perhaps offering a different build experience.
- Starfleet Headquarters: A modular building set allowing for customizable scenes.
- Iconic Scenes & Characters: Smaller sets recreating memorable moments and featuring key characters like Captain Kirk, Spock, and Picard.
The LEGO Ideas platform, where fans can submit their own designs, has already hosted several popular star Trek concepts. One submission, a detailed U.S.S. enterprise, garnered over 10,000 supporters, demonstrating strong fan demand. While not all ideas projects become official sets, they provide valuable insight into what the community wants.
