LEGO has launched a cinematic advertising campaign titled Everyone Wants a Piece ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, featuring four of the world’s most prominent football stars: Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé, and Vinícius Júnior.

The commercial, which became viral following its release on April 2, 2026, depicts the four athletes in a high-stakes, stylish setting. According to reporting from Brandsynario, the ad departs from traditional bright LEGO aesthetics in favor of a moody, secret society atmosphere characterized by deep shadows, cool blue tones, and high contrast, where a golden LEGO World Cup trophy glows against a minimalist dark background.

The Campaign Concept

In the advertisement, the superstars are gathered around a spinning, dimly lit circular table with a brick-built version of the FIFA World Cup trophy at the center. As the table rotates, each player attempts to place their own LEGO mini-figure on top of the trophy to claim it as their own.

Euronews reports that in a playful twist, none of the professional athletes succeed in their attempts. Instead, the sequence concludes when a young child enters the frame and successfully places his own mini-figure on the trophy.

The slogan Everyone Wants a Piece serves as a double entendre, referring both to the physical LEGO bricks and the competitive drive of the players to secure a piece of football history.

New Product Releases

The campaign promotes the launch of the LEGO FIFA World Cup Official Trophy set. In addition to the trophy, LEGO is releasing four distinct Lego Editions sets, each dedicated to one of the four stars appearing in the commercial.

It’s not every day you get to be transformed into a Lego set! I’m incredibly honored to be part of this new lineup of Lego Editions, alongside three other incredible players in the sport. I’m looking forward to seeing fans from all over the world discover my story and sporting heritage by building this Lego set, blending football and creativity.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Similar to football, Lego play is all about building and rebuilding, trying new things, learning from mistakes and celebrating successes. I love how these Lego sets bring my on-pitch moments to life in a fun and imaginative way. I’m thrilled for fans to explore the magic of football through these sets and together celebrate the sport we all love.

Lionel Messi

Social Media Impact and Authenticity

The collaboration has generated significant digital engagement. Lionel Messi shared the commercial on his Instagram account, where the post accumulated 17 million likes and over 180 million views within one day.

Due to the high production quality and the rare gathering of these specific athletes, Messi included the hashtag #HonestlyIt’sNotAI in his caption to clarify that the footage was real. This was echoed by Brandsynario, which noted that the ad is not an AI-generated creation.

World Cup Context

The campaign arrives as preparations intensify for the 2026 tournament. The cast represents a mix of established World Cup champions and players still seeking the title.

  • Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi have previously won the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and 2022, respectively.
  • Cristiano Ronaldo and Vinícius Júnior are aiming to win the trophy for the first time during the upcoming tournament in North America.
