Leinster Captain Conan Silences Critics After United Rugby Championship Win
Updated June 15, 2025
Jack Conan, captain of Leinster, said the team’s recent United Rugby Championship victory helped them “silence a few critics” after overcoming past setbacks. Leinster secured their ninth title their first since 2021, with a decisive 32-7 victory over the Bulls at Croke Park. The United Rugby Championship win was especially sweet for Conan, given the team’s previous near misses in European competitions.
Conan, set to join the British and Irish Lions for their summer tour in Australia, celebrated winning the trophy at the GAA headquarters, especially with fans present, unlike Leinster’s last victory four years ago, which occurred behind closed doors due to COVID-19 restrictions. Leinster established a commanding 19-0 lead by halftime.
Conan credited the team’s strong defense for shutting out the Bulls, which contributed considerably to their second-half success. The team’s ability to maintain their lead through a robust defensive effort proved crucial.
“Definitely feeling a bit of relief, just so delighted for everyone who has put in so much work the last few years,” conan told TG4. “I’m glad we showed up and performed and where able to silence a few critics.”
“To hold them out at half-time, credit to the lads for putting their heads in where you wouldn’t put a shovel, the mental lift that gave us was huge,” he admitted.
What’s next
Following the United Rugby Championship win, Leinster looks to build on this success in future competitions, while Conan prepares to represent the British and Irish Lions on their tour of australia.
