Leishman Outlasts Scott: Golf News & Analysis
Adam Scott’s Masters Meltdown: Australian Champion Crashes Out After Disastrous Second Round
Adam Scott, teh celebrated 2013 Masters champion, endured a brutal second round at the tournament, carding an eight-over-par 79 and missing the cut. The Australian golfer, who had shown promising striking form coming into the day, saw his hopes of contention evaporate with a round marred by double bogeys and bogeys.
Scott’s round was a tale of woe, with costly errors on several holes. He registered double bogeys on the third, eleventh, and sixteenth holes, compounded by bogeys on the ninth, tenth, and eighteenth. It was a day where nearly every aspect of his game seemed to falter, leading to his premature exit from the prestigious event.
Australian Contingent Struggles at Augusta
Scott was not the only Australian to face difficulties on the course.Cam Smith, the 2022 Open champion, also had a challenging day, matching Scott’s seven-over-par 79. This result meant Smith missed the cut at all four major championships this year, a stark contrast to his previous successes.
Ryan peake finished the tournament at eight over par after a second-round 73. He was joined by West Australian Curtis Luck, who, despite striking the ball well in the second round for a one-under-par 71, couldn’t overcome a disastrous opening round of 80.
Luck Battles Health Concerns
Luck candidly admitted after his round that he has been grappling with meaningful health issues. persistent neck, groin, and back problems have severely impacted his ability to play and practise consistently. “The MRI has come back clean and my spine is in good order so we are just trying to figure out what the issue is with my movement patterns,” Luck shared. “I had to avoid a lot of activities to make sure that I was healthy enough to play here.”
Another west australian, Min Woo Lee, also cut a frustrated figure throughout the tournament. Rounds of 74 and 73 were not enough to get him close to the cut line at any point. “Yeah, it was there, but also not, yeah, I just didn’t convert anything,” Lee told Australian reporters after finishing his second round. “Its a course where it can bite you in the butt pretty quick.”
Sam McClure travelled to the British Open with the assistance of Golf Australia.
