faster Travel Between Annemasse and Vernier
A new direct train connection between Annemasse, France, and Vernier, Switzerland (Geneva Airport) is set to launch, significantly reducing travel times. The journey between Annemasse and Vernier is expected to take 21 minutes, possibly saving travelers more than 10 minutes compared to existing routes.
This improvement is made possible by opening the Châtelaine tunnel to passenger traffic, previously used exclusively for freight. The Léman Express website details the updated schedules.
Limited Initial Service, Expanding to Peak Hours
Initially, the service will consist of just one direct connection in each direction: departing Annemasse at 3:56 a.m.to accommodate early flights, and leaving the airport at 11:54 p.m. for late-night arrivals. This schedule is designed to serve the first and last flights of the day.
during morning rush hour, Monday thru Friday, two direct trains will run from annemasse to Vernier station. A single train will operate directly from Vernier back to Annemasse during the same period.
Relieving Traffic on the CEVA Line
Additional trains will connect Annemasse to Lancy-Pont-Rouge via Chêne-Bourg, Genève-Eaux-Vives, Genève-Champel, Lancy-Bachet, and Lancy-Pont-Rouge. This route utilizes a section of the Cornavin-Eaux-Vives-Annemasse (CEVA) line, already served by other Léman Express lines. The goal is to alleviate congestion during peak commuting times.
A total of nine additional trains are planned – five from Geneva towards France and four in the opposite direction – increasing seat capacity by 12% during peak hours. Full details of the schedule are available on the Léman express website.
