Lexi Thompson Shares Lead at meijer LPGA Classic

BELMONT, Mich. — lexi Thompson, aiming for her first victory in over six years, finished Saturday’s third round of the Meijer LPGA Classic tied for the lead. Thompson’s late surge, including birdies on two of the final three holes, propelled her to the top of the leaderboard.
Thompson carded a 4-under 68 at Blythefield Country Club. After finding the water and bogeying the par-5 14th, she rebounded with birdies on Nos. 16 and 18. She is now tied at 11-under 205 with nanna Koerstz Madsen, madelene sagstrom, Sofia Garcia, Hye-Jin Choi, and Carlota Ciganda.
Thompson,30,of Florida,last won on the LPGA Tour in June 2019 at the ShopRite LPGA Classic. She is playing a limited schedule this season and is slated to compete in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in Texas next week. This is her sixth start of the season.
Koerstz Madsen faltered, bogeying the final two holes after holding a two-stroke advantage.
Sagstrom, who won the T-Mobile Match Play in Las Vegas in April, had a remarkable stretch with an eagle, birdie, and another eagle on holes 4-6.
Garcia briefly held the lead at 13-under after 12 holes but then bogeyed the subsequent three holes.
Karis Davidson finished at 9-under after a 71. Megan Khang (69) is another stroke behind, along with Chanettee Wannasaen (69), Bronte Law (71), and Celine boutier (72).
”Not my best ball-striking day,” Thompson said. “But I scrambled very well and stayed positive, patient, and that’s what it’s kind of all about.”
“Everybody is going to come out swinging,” Thompson said. “Good weather tomorrow, so I know birdies will have to be made and I’ll have to go pin-seeking. I will hope for the best, go out there and embrace the opportunity, and really love on the fans.”
“the positive thing is now I feel what’s going on when I get a little nervous, so I can work on what I need to be focusing on tomorrow,” Koerstz Madsen said. “Because I’m definitely going to be nervous tomorrow.”
“I’m happy I was able to get it back together,” Garcia said. “Made a really good chip out on 16. Was able to have a good finish.”
“I always try to attack the course,” Sagstrom said. “I think I do play quite aggressive. I think this course, it demands shots.”
