Lexi Thompson‌ Shares Lead at meijer ⁢LPGA Classic

BELMONT, Mich. — lexi Thompson, aiming for her first victory in over six years,‌ finished ​Saturday’s third round of ‍the Meijer LPGA Classic tied for the lead.⁣ Thompson’s​ late surge, including birdies on two of the final three holes, propelled her to the top of the leaderboard.

Thompson carded a 4-under ‌68 at Blythefield Country Club. After‌ finding the ‌water ​and bogeying the par-5 14th, she rebounded with birdies on Nos. 16 and‌ 18.⁢ She is now tied‍ at 11-under 205 with nanna Koerstz Madsen, madelene sagstrom, Sofia Garcia, Hye-Jin Choi, and Carlota Ciganda.

Thompson,30,of Florida,last won on the ⁣LPGA Tour in June 2019 at ⁢the ShopRite LPGA ‍Classic. She is playing a limited‍ schedule this ⁢season and​ is slated to compete in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in Texas next week. This is her sixth start of ⁤the season.

Koerstz Madsen faltered, bogeying the final two holes after holding a two-stroke advantage.

Sagstrom, who won the T-Mobile Match Play in Las Vegas in April, had a remarkable stretch with an eagle, birdie, and another eagle on ⁢holes 4-6.

Garcia briefly held‌ the lead at 13-under after ‌12 holes but ⁤then bogeyed the⁢ subsequent three​ holes.

Karis⁣ Davidson finished at 9-under after ‍a⁣ 71. Megan Khang (69) is another stroke behind, along with Chanettee Wannasaen (69), Bronte Law⁤ (71), and Celine boutier (72).

‌”Not my best ball-striking⁣ day,” Thompson said. “But I‍ scrambled⁤ very well and ⁤stayed positive, patient,​ and that’s what ‍it’s kind of all about.”

⁢ ‌ ‍ “Everybody is ⁢going to come out ⁣swinging,” Thompson said. “Good weather tomorrow, ‌so I know birdies will have to be made and I’ll have to go pin-seeking. I will hope for the best, go out ‌there and embrace the opportunity, ⁢and really love ‍on ‍the⁣ fans.”

‌ “the positive thing is now I feel what’s going on⁢ when I get a little nervous, so I​ can work on what I need to be focusing ‍on⁢ tomorrow,” Koerstz Madsen said. “Because I’m definitely going to be​ nervous tomorrow.”

⁣ “I’m happy I was able to get ⁢it ⁤back together,” Garcia said. “Made a really good chip out on 16. Was able to have a good finish.”
‌ ⁤

“I ⁤always try to attack the course,” Sagstrom said. “I ​think I do play quite aggressive. I think this course, it ​demands‍ shots.”
